New Year, New Routine

New Year, New Routine

With every new year comes new resolutions, and whether you make them or not, it’s likely that you think about new things in the back of your mind that you’d like to accomplish every January. With 2020 finally closed and a chance for a fresh start, ringing in the new year is a great time to create a new routine to jumpstart your health, productivity, or any other areas of your life that you feel may be lacking. Rather than making big, drastic changes, you may find more success in achieving your goals if you merely tweak your current routine to better suit your lifestyle and schedule.

In today’s post from The Online Drugstore, we’ll give you some of our best tips for optimizing and renewing your daily routine in ways that not only benefit your health, but help you achieve your goals that you’ve set for yourself at the beginning of this year. At The Online Drugstore, we remain committed to providing everything you need to care for your health and your home at affordable prices and delivered to your door. Your health and safety is our number one priority, and we’re so grateful that you’ve chosen The Online Drugstore to get all of your healthcare needs delivered straight to your door.

Practice Gratitude

One of the most effective ways to change your attitude and improve your life is to add a gratitude practice to your everyday routine. Whether you make a list every morning while enjoying a cup of coffee or you discuss what you’re grateful for with your family or spouse every night, focusing on the things that make you smile can cause a ripple effect of positivity in your life. Make a list of 5-10 things that you’re grateful for each day. Try to be specific if you can. Maybe it was watching your daughter dance around the living room or hearing your favorite song on the radio. Changing your mindset can, quite literally, change your life.

Read

There’s no denying that 2020 gave us more time to try new things. Spending so much time at home means you may have spent extra time organizing, remodeling, or picking up a new hobby. But, did you pick up a book? A reading habit is not only a great way to expand your knowledge and vocabulary, it’s also better for your eyes than that TV screen in your home. Rather than turning the TV on when you crawl into bed every night, try picking up a book instead. Not only will your eyes thank you, but your sleeping habits may improve as well.

Exercise

After the holiday season is over, “lose weight” may be the number one goal on your list of resolutions. And, come February or March, your commitment to that goal falls by the wayside more often than not. The key to successfully adding exercise to your new routine is to start small. By setting specific and achievable goals, making time, and doing workouts that you enjoy, you’re more likely to stick with your new exercise routine for longer than just a month or two.

Meditate

The benefits of adding prayer or meditation to your daily routine are similar to those of practicing gratitude. Making the time to intentionally rest, breathe, and allow yourself to sit still for a few minutes can help you relax and relieve a lot of extra stress in your life. Stress can be the cause of a lot of health issues including weight gain and trouble sleeping — and we know that these things lead to a lot of other health problems and disease. That’s why meditation or prayer can be an essential part of staying happy and healthy. Don’t downplay the effect that sitting still for 30 minutes of your day can have on your overall life.

Go Outside

While COVID-19 is still present in our lives and enjoying life the way we used to may not yet be an option, it doesn’t mean that you have to spend every waking moment inside your home. Getting outside and enjoying fresh air and sunshine can improve your mood and your health. Taking 30 minutes of your day to go for a walk around your neighborhood can check two things off of your new daily routine. If you’re tired or bored or stressed, go outside and take a few big breaths of fresh air — your lungs and your spirit will thank you.
